Stardust Casino Legal States

If you’re looking for Stardust casino legal states, they are New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The name comes from a Las Vegas Strip resort that closed in 2006, but this online brand adopted it in 2021. The odd part? You can’t play it in Nevada, because online casino games have never been legal there. To play, you must be 21 and physically inside one of the three states. Let’s get into more facts!

Where You Can Play Stardust Casino

The Three Live States

So, where is Stardust Casino legal? The short answer is three states: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Each one runs through a land-based casino partner. In New Jersey, that’s Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. In Pennsylvania, it’s Valley Forge Casino Resort, which Boyd Gaming owns.

West Virginia is the newest of the three. The site there carries the Mardi Gras Casino & Resort name, after the property in Nitro, near Charleston. Boyd’s own brand page hadn’t added West Virginia yet when we checked, so some older lists still show only two states.

Each state gets its own site, like pa.stardustcasino.com or wv.stardustcasino.com. Make sure to choose the right state before you sign in.

Stardust Outside the US

You might also spot Stardust in Canada. It runs in Ontario and, since July 13, 2026, in Alberta.

That’s why searches for Stardust casino available states sometimes turn up more than three. Both are Canadian licenses, and neither one lets you play from inside the United States.

The Name Is From Las Vegas. The Casino Is Not.

Plenty of people searching this name are actually looking for the old resort. So it helps to separate the two. The Stardust Resort and Casino opened on the Las Vegas Strip in July 1958. Boyd Gaming bought it in 1985 and closed it in November 2006. Its towers were imploded in March 2007.

Boyd later sold the land to Genting, and Resorts World Las Vegas opened there in 2021. That same year, Boyd brought the Stardust name back online with FanDuel, which rebranded its Betfair casino in New Jersey as Stardust.

In 2023, Boyd moved Stardust onto its own technology, which it acquired through its purchase of Pala Interactive. So the website shares a name with the old landmark, and not much else.

Legal States Where Stardust Is Not Available

Outside these three Stardust casino states, online casino is legal in four more US states. Maine has legalized it too, but hasn’t launched. Stardust isn’t live in any of them.

Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island: Closed Markets

These leave almost no room for a newcomer. Connecticut allows exactly two online casinos, one for each of its two federally recognized tribal nations. DraftKings works with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, and Mohegan Sun holds the other seat.

Delaware routes all online casino play through one vendor under contract with the state lottery. That vendor is Rush Street Interactive, the company behind BetRivers. Rhode Island goes further still. A 2023 law gave Bally’s the only online casino license in the state.

Michigan: No Spare License

In Michigan, the barrier is capacity, not exclusivity. The state allows 15 online licenses, tied to three Detroit casinos and 12 federally recognized tribes.

All 15 are in use. You should know that a newcomer would need one of those casinos or tribes to drop its current partner.

Maine: Legal, Not Launched

Maine legalized online casino in January 2026 under LD 1164, but the market isn’t live yet. Each of the 4 Wabanaki Nations will hold one license and pick its own partner.

Caesars has signed with three of them. No Boyd or Stardust deal has been announced, and a federal lawsuit from Churchill Downs has added to the delay.

Everywhere Else, Including Nevada

Nevada allows online poker, but it has never legalized online casino games. So the state that made the Stardust name famous is the one place this online casino can’t legally exist.

You can still play in person at Boyd’s land-based casinos in Las Vegas. You just can’t open the Stardust app there.

The Rest of the Country

In every other state, real-money online casino isn’t legal. So, what states is Stardust Casino legal in? Just New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Searches for Stardust online casino states often pull up Vegas photos and Canadian pages, which can be confusing. Sports-only states such as Ohio or Virginia don’t count either, since a legal sportsbook doesn’t make online casino legal.

Our states index covers the rules where you live, and we’ll update this page if the list changes.

Who Licenses Stardust Casino

The Three Regulators

All Stardust legal states keep public licensing records you can always check. In New Jersey, the Division of Gaming Enforcement lists Borgata’s permit under Marina District Development Company, LLC. Its current number is NJIGP 26-001, and Stardust has run under that permit since its June 2023 relaunch.

In Pennsylvania, the Gaming Control Board lists Stardust under Valley Forge Convention Center Partners, LLC, doing business as Valley Forge Casino Resort. It has run under that certificate since May 2, 2023.

In West Virginia, the West Virginia Lottery licenses online casinos. Stardust runs there alongside Mardi Gras Casino & Resort, and the Lottery’s register shows the exact license record.

Who Actually Runs Stardust

Boyd Gaming revived the Stardust name and runs the site through Boyd Interactive, its online arm. The licenses themselves sit with the land-based partners, not with the brand.

There’s one quirk on the Pennsylvania register. FanDuel Casino also runs under Valley Forge’s certificate, so the two former partners now share one license holder.

If You Had an Old Stardust Account

If you played Stardust before 2023, one detail matters. Accounts from the original FanDuel-run Stardust were moved to FanDuel Casino in 2023. So don’t be confused with the new Stardust.

The relaunched site started fresh on Boyd’s system. In New Jersey, it also took in players from Boyd’s former Pala Casino. After all, the rules are the same in all three states. You must be 21, and geolocation always checks your location every session.

Frequently asked questions

1. What states is Stardust Casino available in?

Stardust Casino is available in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Those are the Stardust Casino legal states for real-money play. You must be 21 and physically inside one of them, though you do not need to live there. Its Canadian sites in Ontario and Alberta work only inside those provinces.

2. Can I play Stardust Casino in Nevada?

No. Nevada allows online poker but has never legalized online casino games, so no operator runs one there. The state that made the Stardust name famous is the one place this online casino cannot legally operate. You can still visit Boyd's land-based Las Vegas casinos in person.

3. Is this the same Stardust as the Las Vegas casino?

Same name, different thing. The Stardust Resort and Casino opened on the Las Vegas Strip in 1958 and closed in 2006, and its towers came down in March 2007. Boyd Gaming, which owned it from 1985, brought the name back as an online casino in 2021.

4. Who runs Stardust Casino?

Boyd Gaming does, through its online arm, Boyd Interactive. FanDuel powered the site when it first launched in 2021, but Stardust moved to Boyd's own platform in 2023 after Boyd acquired Pala Interactive. Each state license is held by a land-based casino partner rather than by the brand.

5. Do I have to live in the state to play Stardust Casino?

No. What counts is your location, not your address. You need to be at least 21 and physically inside New Jersey or Pennsylvania each time you play. Geolocation checks where you are at signup and throughout every session, so visitors from other states can play while they are there.
