Detroit’s three commercial casinos reported $103.55 million in aggregate revenue for September 2026, according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board. Table games and slots brought in $102.78 million, and retail sports betting added $769,771. Revenue from table games and slots was up 4.7% in September 2025 but down 5.6% in August.
The figures come from the board’s monthly revenue release of 13 October 2026.
MotorCity Leads the Year-Over-Year Gains
MotorCity Casino posted the biggest increase of the three properties. Its table game and slot revenue rose 12.7% compared with September 2025, to $32.6 million.
MGM Grand Detroit stayed the largest casino in the city, with revenue up 6.5% to $48.84 million. Hollywood Casino at Greektown went the other way, falling 8.8% to $21.34 million.
| Casino | September 2026 revenue | Change vs September 2025 | Market share |
|---|---|---|---|
| MGM Grand Detroit | $48.84 million | +6.5% | 47% |
| MotorCity Casino | $32.6 million | +12.7% | 32% |
| Hollywood Casino at Greektown | $21.34 million | -8.8% | 21% |
MotorCity’s market share rose one point from August, when it held 31%. MGM’s share slipped from 48% to 47%, and Greektown held steady at 21%.
A Third Straight Monthly Decline
September continued a slide that began after a strong summer. The three casinos reported $112.57 million in July and $109.72 million in August, before falling to $103.55 million in September.
The year as a whole is still ahead of 2025. Table game and slot revenue from 1 January to 30 September was up 2.3% compared with the same period last year.
Greektown is the weak spot in that picture. It was already down 2.6% year over year in August, and through the first eight months it was the only Detroit casino behind its 2025 pace.
$21 Million in Taxes and City Payments
The casinos paid $8.3 million in state gaming taxes for September, up from $8.0 million a year earlier. They also reported $12.7 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit.
Detroit’s casinos pay 19% of adjusted gross receipts in wagering taxes. That rate splits into 8.1% for the state and 10.9% for the city, on top of the development agreement payments.
The board renewed the operating licenses of all three casinos at its 8 September 2026 meeting.
Retail Sports Betting Stays Small
Retail sportsbooks at the three casinos took $12.39 million in handle in September. Total gross receipts were $784,762, and qualified adjusted gross receipts came to $769,771.
That figure rose 3.0% from September 2025 but fell 10.9% from August. Results varied widely between the three books:
- MotorCity: $602,755
- Hollywood Casino at Greektown: $215,281
- MGM Grand Detroit: negative $48,265
A negative month means a sportsbook paid out more than it took in after adjustments. The casinos paid $30,922 in state taxes and $37,793 in city wagering taxes on September’s retail sports betting.
Retail handle has fallen sharply over two years. In September 2024, the three casinos took $22.02 million in retail sports bets, close to twice this year’s figure.
Elsewhere in Michigan
The September report landed during a busy stretch for the board. On 8 October, it announced 33 cease-and-desist letters to offshore sites operating without a Michigan license.
The board also said Coinbase agreed on 7 October to halt sports-related event contracts in Michigan. Robinhood made a similar agreement on 9 September, and both moves are tracked on our prediction market tracker.
Fantasy contest operators reported $657,854 in adjusted revenue for August and paid $55,260 in taxes.
