Fanatics Casino guide

Fanatics Casino Legal States

Fanatics Casino is live in four states: Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and West Virginia. Instead of applying for separate licenses in each state, Fanatics bought PointsBet’s US business back in 2024. It also acquired its licenses, effectively gaining a four-state online casino business within a year.

Fanatics’ online casino operations are different from the sportsbook, which has a wider licensing status. Check where Fanatics sportsbook is legal. To play online casino games at this operator, you must be 21 or older and physically inside the four states; residency doesn’t matter.

The Four Live States

Fanatics is live in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

  • Pennsylvania: Launched on January 22, 2024. The license was acquired through the PointsBet acquisition. The casino is partnered with the Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association.
  • Michigan: Launched on February 22, 2024, in partnership with the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.
  • New Jersey: Launched on May 8, 2024, in partnership with Bally’s Atlantic City. Fanatics’ sports betting presence in the state has a different partner.
  • West Virginia: Launched on November 16, 2024, in partnership with Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.

A Footprint That Was Bought, Not Built

In 2024, Fanatics bought out PointsBet in the USA, acquiring its business across numerous states. It also inherited its state licenses and player bases, rather than applying for a local license in the four states from scratch.

That’s the reason why a sports merchandise company has four Fanatics casino states, with a much larger sportsbook presence. The unified Fanatics Casino app automatically tailors features based on your current location, so casino games are only available in the four states where it’s legal.

Legal States Where Fanatics Is Not Available

Currently, three live legal casino markets are closed to Fanatics.

  • That’s Connecticut, which permits only two operators tied to one of the state’s tribal nations. DraftKings and FanDuel are the only two legal casino operators in the state.
  • Delaware, where online gaming runs through a single vendor in partnership with the state lottery.
  • Rhode Island, which is a single-operator market through Bally’s.

Maine is on the list, too, but for different reasons; a legal market isn’t open yet. Online casino gaming was legalized in Maine under LD 1164 in January 2026, but the market has yet to launch.

Each law gives one of the four federally recognized operators a commercial partner through the Wabanaki Nations, and those slots have already been filled out. Fanatics was among the operators that testified against the bill.

Nevada is not a casino state. It allows online poker, but not online casino games.

Everywhere Else

Online casino gaming isn’t legal across most of the country. Texas, California, New York, and Florida are the largest states where it remains illegal. Check the state hub for the current legal picture in yours.

Who Licenses Fanatics Casino in Each State

The Four Regulators

Fanatics Casino is licensed in states where it’s live by different governing bodies.

How Fanatics Holds Its Licenses

Fanatics’ online casino presence in each state operates under a license or certificate of a land-based partner. This is why the partner’s name appears on the regulator’s board rather than Fanatics.

The casino is owned and operated by Fanatics Betting and Gaming. To access and play, you must be physically present in one of the four legal states and 21 or older.

Frequently asked questions

1. What states is Fanatics Casino legal in?

Fanatics Casino is legal and live in only four states: Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The sportsbook is licensed in far more states. You must be up to 21 and physically inside a licensed state to play casino games.

2. How did Fanatics launch in so many states so quickly?

Fanatics bought its way in. It acquired PointsBet's US business in 2024 and took over its licenses and player bases state by state, rather than applying from scratch. Pennsylvania went live in January 2024 and New Jersey closed the transition in May.

3. How much did Fanatics pay to acquire PointsBet's US business?

$225 million. Fanatics first agreed $150 million in May 2023, DraftKings counterbid $195 million, and then Fanatics raised its offer to win. The deal closed in April 2024, and the state-by-state handover is why the casino launches were months apart.

4. Why is Fanatics Casino not available in Connecticut?

Because there is no license available. Connecticut only permits exactly two online casino operators, one tied to each of its two tribal nations, and both seats are held. Delaware and Rhode Island are closed to Fanatics for similar structural reasons.

5. Is Fanatics Casino legal in Texas?

No. Texas has not legalized online casino gaming or online sports betting, so no Fanatics product operates in texas. Being a Texas resident does not stop you from playing while you are physically inside Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia.

6. Do I have to live in the state to play Fanatics Casino?

No, residency is not the test. You must be physically located inside one of the four legal Fanatics Casino states when you play, and must be up to 21 or older. Geolocation tracks your position on sign-up and during every session.
